The Joy of Downsizing
“Joy is not in things; it is in us.” – Richard Wagner
This is a great quote that is so perfect for all of us tiny house lovers on the planet. Amazingly, many people can’t imagine the joy of downsizing until they actually get rid of all their stuff and simplify their life. A greater awareness about this truth is that once they downsize, declutter and get rid of their excessive belongings, they start to notice that they can easily get rid of even more things than they initially did when starting the process.
Since I originally moved into my own tiny house, I have actually experienced the joy of downsizing twice, although I think the most recent is the last. Everyone I have spoken to on the subject has said they rarely missed anything after it was gone. And let’s face it, if they did or if you do, you can almost always replace it. In the meantime, you no longer have to look at it, dust it or store it.
Whenever I’ve had the occasion to speak to someone who has drastically downsized, they have raved about how great it feels and how they never looked back or would never want to live large again. So…this should tell you something. Take the opportunity yourself to speak to people who have downsized and hear for yourself what they say about it. Don’t just take my word for it.
