Water, Water Anywhere?
In all likelihood, topping your priority list is to have clean water in your Tiny House, RV, Skoolie, Boat, Van Conversions and all types of small living quarters that so many of us love to live in while traveling the world or following other dreams.
Have you thought about where your water is coming from when you hook up to a hose that has lain in the sun all day?
Oh no, I’m not trying to sell you any type of water purifier. But I do want to urge you to do your research on this subject. Seriously consider having some way to clean the water coming into your home. Let me tell you a personal experience.
When my husband and I cruised the Caribbean in our boat, we had a water purifier aboard. Before we got it, everywhere we went, we had to anchor out, load our dingy with big water jugs, get them to shore and fill them at whatever available faucets we could find at town docks and then bring those filled jugs back to put the water into our water tanks. Not only is that very physical labor, but you can never really be sure of the quality of the water. We were fortunate to have a sail boat with the space to install a water purifier.
There are some other options. As an example, many boaters have water catchment systems, also used by some off-grid tiny house dwellers.
Here are a few things we tiny dwellers need to think about:
- Carting water bottles and storing them is not only labor intensive, but also demands storage space.
- Most water purifiers take up a lot of room, so you’ll need to plan how you will fit it into your space.
- Determining which products are the best quality is important.
A point of interest? Even homeowners in standard-sized homes or stationary tiny homes who know where their water is coming from frequently have water purifiers installed anyway. In today’s world, it just makes sense to be safe.
