Building Materials
Building Materials – New
Because new technology and new materials are constantly coming on the market, you will want to do your own research and keep yourself updated. In view of this, I will not attempt to make any recommendations. However, I will suggest that it is very important to find the best, safest materials available on the market today. When you are living in small spaces and in close proximity to the walls, floors and ceilings, it is even more important to eliminate any possible toxic materials that are frequently found in new products. So be sure to check out the latest technology when planning your build or renovation.
Building Materials – Salvage
You don’t have to purchase new materials to build your home. It may take a little digging to locate used materials. You can find things like wood, lumber, used appliances, sinks, cabinets, vanities, doors, windows, furniture, bookcases and most anything by searching construction sites, demolition companies, salvage yards, Habitat for Humanity, ReStore, yard sales and websites such as Craigslist.org, Ebayclassified.com or Freecycle.org. When using Craigslist, you can search under different catagories like garage sales, free materials and the title of the item you are looking for. Check with your builder on the use of second hand windows, because I have heard these could cause problems and I want you to be alert to all possibilities.
